Internet search engine technologies have exploded on to the computing scene, providing an almost instantaneous response to information queries.  Recently, the same providers of Internet search services have also made available the basic search engine technologies for incorporating into internal corporate search.  These engines provide the basic mechanisms for "crawling" the Intranet data stores, and indexing the discovered data for rapid retrieval. The technology provides for search across a variety of data stores included data text files in any format (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, XML, etc.) and can include data stored in relational databases.

Google Enterprise Search	Google is the most well-known developer of search solutions for the Internet and Intranet.  The Google Search Appliance. Google's offering may be attractive to those organizations that are operating systems neutral and need to integrate search into custom server platforms.
Microsoft Search	Microsoft search technologies are relatively new, however search solutions have been incorporated in both desktop search and the enterprise search (through SharePoint). Microsoft's offering may be attractive to those organizations who wish to leverage their installed Microsoft components and can take advantage of the enterprise search using the SharePoint portal services.
